چکیده

We examine recent results on measurements of the magnetic penetration depth in cuprate superconductors, with particular emphasis on our results obtained with the microstrip and parallel-plate resonator techniques. The results show that the magnetic penetration depth temperature dependence in YBa2Cu307-a is not consistent with a simple scaled weak-coupled BCS temperature dependence. We present three classes of interpretations of these measurements, and how they relate to other experimental studies of the cuprates. Finally, these interpretations are discussed in terms of some theories of cuprate superconductivity.

Oxygen-isotope effect on the in-plane penetration depth in cuprate superconductors

Muon-spin rotation (μSR) studies of the oxygen isotope (O/O) effect (OIE) on the in-plane magnetic field penetration depth λab in cuprate high-temperature superconductors (HTS) are presented. First, the doping dependence of the OIE on the transition temperature Tc in various HTS is briefly discussed. It is observed that different cuprate families show a similar doping dependence of the OIE on T...

Isotope effects in high-Tc cuprate superconductors as support for the bipolaron theory of superconductivity

We provide a unified parameter-free explanation of the observed oxygen-isotope effects on the critical temperature, the magnetic-field penetration depth and on the normal-state pseudogap for underdoped cuprate superconductors within the framework of the multi-(bi)polaron theory with strong Coulomb and Fröhlich interactions. We also quantitatively explain the measured critical temperature and th...

Microwave surface-impedance measurements of the magnetic penetration depth in single crystal Ba1-xKxFe2As2 superconductors: evidence for a disorder-dependent superfluid density.

We report high-sensitivity microwave measurements of the in-plane penetration depth lambda_{ab} and quasiparticle scattering rate 1/tau in several single crystals of the hole-doped Fe-based superconductor Ba(1-x)K(x)Fe(2)As(2) (x approximately 0.55). While a power-law temperature dependence of lambda_{ab} with a power approximately 2 is found in crystals with large 1/tau, we observe an exponent...

S- and D-wave Pairing in Short Coherence Length Superconductors

Over the past three years or so the evidence has become overwhelming that the cuprate high Tc superconductors have a d-wave pairing state[1]. The measurements of Wollman et al.[2] and of Tsuei et al.[3] are especially convincing since they do not depend on the microscopic physics of the energy gap, but instead depend only on the order parameter phase. Other experiments, such as photoemission[4,...

Experimental Constraints on the Pairing State of the Cuprate Superconductors: an Emerging Consensus

We present a critical discussion of recent experimental probes of the pairing state of the high temperature superconductors, focusing primarily, but not exclusively, on YBa2Cu3O7−δ, where the best data currently exist. Penetration depth measurements near Tc give no indication of an extra transition, indicating that the pairing state is a one-dimensional representation of the crystal symmetry. P...
